“Believe in yourself and keep practicing in the right way.”
Your artwork is very impressive and distinctive. Tell us about your journey.
I am a self-taught Artist. Drawing & designing is my passion since childhood. I have participated and won a few competitions in drawing at school level. I did Apparel & Fashion designing in my under grad, where I developed my designing skills. As I was interested in dress designing too, I took part in few designing competitions. I did MBA and was placed in textile field. Due to certain circumstances, I didn’t get enough opportunity to continue with that. This is the time where I returned to my passion. I started drawing the portraits of celebrities & famous personalities and began to learn myself. I started observing the paintings of many unknown artists and began to imitate their work and practice. My works were Pencil sketching, water color & poster color.
Have you undertaken any formal training for your artwork and from where?
As I started doing many sketches & paintings, I did a postal diploma in fine arts, which helped me to add up and improvise my skill. I started concentrating in Oil Paintings, which indeed became my favorite medium of Painting.
Tell us the process as to how every project is handled right from planning to execution.
At the beginning , I drew and painted out of my visual liking towards any picture or any of artists work. Now before I start, I list out certain points to myself as to what should I do, why do I like that particular art, what difference / individuality can I make in doing. After deciding, I study about the origin of particular style of art, whether it’s done by any other artists, about their perception & outcome, any rules or beliefs followed in it and then I start to draw. As I keep progressing, I take photographs of the art in progress to check it’s outcome in each stage, in order to find if any changes have to be done. If it’s copy work, I check with the source in each stage and also get feedback from my close ones to improvise my work.
Which has been your most memorable piece of art work that you have created? Can you give us a brief description about it and the tools that you used for the same?
Each of my art work is memorable in each way. Because I start every artwork with a thought that I’m painting for the first time. I try to be unique in each of my work by at least with minute differences. Also, I note down the plus & minus in each work and try to improve it next time.
Who inspires you and what keeps you motivated to create such great piece of work?
My parents inspired me right from childhood. They both have artistic traits equally and I believe what I am now is because of their artistic nature. Apart from them, art by itself is a motivator. The happiness I get when I complete an artwork itself motivates me to do more & more.
Tools / software that you use regularly as a part of your work.
All my work are done manually. I don’t use any software or tools. Even though many software is available, I get an immense satisfaction when the work is completely done by me.
Your art focuses on religious deities. Tell us more about it.
I come from a traditional family and I was brought up with the environment of legend Artist, ‘Sir Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings in my home. His aesthetic & traditional works depicted the religious deities and mythological characters from epics & puranaas. As I grew up , I had curiosity to imitate those and develop inspiration to make realistic paintings of deities.
